PV Sindhu wins silver at Dutch Open-2011

PV Sindhu of India reinforced her reputation as one of the best emerging badminton players of the world when she clinched the Silver medal at the Yonex Dutch Open 2011 badminton tournament that was held at Almere in Netherlands from 11-Oct to 16-Oct-2011.

16 year old Sindhu started the tournament with a bang when she toppled the 4th seed and world no.22 Juan Gu of Singapore in the opening round with a score of 21-12, 21-19.

She proved that her first round win was not a fluke victory as she went on to reach the semi-finals where she defeated the tournament's top seed, the current world no.11 Porntip Buranaprasertsuk of Thailand 21-14 15-21 21-13 in a thrilling match.

In the finals however P.V. Sindhu could not sustain the winning momentum losing to the eventual winner and second seeded Jie Yao of the home country Netherlands by a score of 16-21, 17-21.

The other Indian girl in the fray, Arundhati Pantawane, who also trains alongwith Sindhu at the Gopichand badminton academy in Hyderabad, lost in the 2nd round. Arundhati had recently won the Silver medal at the Yonex Czech International 2011 that concluded earlier this month.
