Thailand Open-2011, Kashyap, Verma in QF

P. Kashyap and Sourabh Verma of India have stormed into the quarterfinals of the Thailand Open-2011 (The SCG Thailand Open Grand Prix Gold-2011) badminton tournament that is being held at Bangkok in Thailand from 7th to 12th June-2011.

Meanwhile, Saina Nehwal of India who is the top seed in the women's singles event, of the Thailand Open-2011 Grand Prix Gold badminton event, has also reached the quarterfinals.

Women's singles

Arundhati Pantawane, who had started as a qualifier here, had won her first 2 qualifying rounds, but was however defeated in the 3rd and final qualifying round when she lost to Hung Yung Chan of Hong Kong 18-21, 5-21.

Saina Nehwal, the top seed, has also reached the quarterfinals of the women's singles event.
In the first round, Saina had defeated Lan Lu of China 21-17 14-21 21-18. 
In the 2nd round Saina Nehwal defeated Mitani Minatsu of Japan, 21-13, 15-21, 21-7.
Saina Nehwal is scheduled to play against 7th seed Xuerui Li of China in the next quarterfinal round.

Men's Singles

Top singles player of India, Parupalli Kashyap seeded 14th at the Thai open, and the young rising badminton star Sourabh Verma have stormed into the quarterfinals of the Thailand Open-2011.

1st round P. Kashyap defeated Poodchalat Pisit of Thailand, 21-17, 9-21, 21-11.
2nd round P. Kashyap defeated Sukama Evert of Indonesia 21-13, 21-14.
3rd round P. Kashyap defeated Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif of Malaysia 21-16, 19-21, 21-12.

Kashyap is scheduled to play against top seed Chen Long of China in the quarterfinals.

1st round Sourabh Verma defeated Andre Kurniawan Tedjono of Indonesia, 15-21, 21-19, 22-20
2nd round Sourabh Verma defeated Jen Hao Hsu of Chinese Taipei 21-17, 20-22, 21-16.
3rd round Sourabh Verma defeated Beng Hong Kuan of Malaysia 21-19, 23-25, 21-14.

Sourabh Verma is slated to meet 3rd seed Sung Hwan Park of Korea in the quarterfinals.

RMV Guru Sai Dutt, who had defeated Kwong Beng Chang of Malaysia, 21-10, 20-22, 21-10 in 3 sets in the first round, could not progress further at the Thailand Open, as he went down to the 16th seeded Choong Hann Wong of Malaysia 13-21, 21-19, 12-21.

Ajay Jayaram, who had came out with a clean 2-sets victory in the 1st round of the Thai Open, against Tien Chen Chou of Chinese Taipei, 21-14, 21-17, almost cause a big upset in the 2nd round before finally losing to 4th seed Jin Chen of China 12-21, 21-15, 18-21 in a close encounter.

In the Men's Doubles event at the Thailand Open badminton-2011 tournament, top Indian mens doubles badminton pair of Rupesh Kumar & Sanave Thomas, could not get past the first round hurdle losing to the 5th seeded Chinese duo of Biao Chai & Zhendong Guo by a score of 8-21, 14-21.

In the Women's Doubles event of the Thailand Open-2011 Grand Prix Gold badminton tourney, top womens doubles pair of India, Jwala Gutta & Ashwini Ponnappa, who were seeded 8th at the Thai Open-2011, lost in their first round match against Lok Yan Pun & Ying Suet Tse of Hong Kong by a score of 21-23, 13-21.

There was no Indian participation in the Mixed doubles event of the Thailand Open-2011. Jwala Gutta's regular mixed doubles partner V.Diju, has been out of action since the India Open Superseries, when he took time off, to get proper treatment done for his back injury.

The Thailand Open GP Gold-2011, is a premier badminton event, that is being played at Bangkok in Thailand. On the professional badminton circuit, the Grand Prix Gold category badminton tournaments are next in importance & stature, only to the Super-Series tournaments.
