Singapore Open-2011 Superseries - updates


Arundhati Pantawane of India, has done well to reach the main draw of the Singapore Open-2011 Superseries badminton tournament being held at Singapore from 14th to 19th June 2011.

Arundhati who started as a qualifier at the Singapore Open-2011 won both her qualifying rounds in 2 hard fought and close matches to earn a berth in the main draw of this Super Series event.

1st qualifying round: Arundhati Pantawane bt. World no.71 Hsiao Huan Chen of Chinese Taipei 18-21, 21-17, 21-19.

2nd qualifying round: Arundhati Pantawane bt. World no. 44, Li Michelle of Canada 21-14, 14-21, 21-19

Arundhati is currently ranked no.169 in the world. She did not even have a ranking at the start of the year but has made rapid strides up the world ranking charts in the last few months. If she keeps on playing like this, she will be in the world top 50 very soon.

With these 2 wins, Arundhati Pantawane has joined Saina Nehwal in the main draw of the prestigious Singapore Open-2011 Superseries badminton tournament. Arundhati will be playing against World no.21 Tzu Ying Tai of Chinese Taipei in the first round of the main draw.

Saina Nehwal, the defending champion, is seeded 4th at the Singapore Open-2011, and is scheduled to play against World no. 24 Lan Lu of China.

In the men's singles event of the Singapore open badminton 2011, RMV Guru Sai Dutt and Ajay Jayaram could not make it past the qualifying rounds to the main draw.

World no. 36 Ajay Jayaram lost to World no.42, Muhammad Hafiz Hashim of Malaysia in a very close match that could have gone either way. The Malaysian finally won the match by a score of 21-15, 14-21, 24-22.

World no.62 RMV Guru Sai Dutt won his first qualifying match at the Singapore Open-2011, against Hsuan Yi Hsueh of Chinese Taipei 16-21 21-18 21-12, however he lost the next match against World no.35 Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk of Thailand by a score of 20-22, 16-21.

The highlight of the day for India at the Singapore Superseries today, was Arundhati's hard fought wins and her entry into the main draw.
