4th seeded Saina Nehwal scored her second straight sets win on the trot in the ongoing Indonesia Open-2011 Super Series Premier badminton tournament being played at Jakarta in Indonesia. Saina outplayed Petya Nedelcheva of Bulgaria 21-18, 21-9 to storm into the quarterfinals of the tournament.
Yesterday Saina Nehwal had got a winning start to her Indonesia Open Super Series Premier-2011 campaign when she won her first match of the tourney scoring a comfortable 2-sets victory over Linda Zechiri of Bulgaria 21-12, 21-10.
Saina Nehwal is the lone Indian woman participant at the Indonesia Open SS Premier-2011 badminton tournament. She is the defending champion having won this tournament the last year in 2010, and is seeded 4th in the tournament. Saina is drawn to play against 8th seeded Tine Baun of Denmark in the quarterfinal round.
There was also a surprise result in the women's singles event today, when top seed Shixian Wang of China was knocked out in the second round by Shao Chieh Cheng of Chinese Taipei 21-15, 21-17 in straight sets. Shixian's loss comes as the second major blow to the Chinese badminton supremacy at the ongoing Indonesia Open, as yesterday 2nd seed Xin Wang also of China, had crashed out of the tournament.
In the women's doubles event of the Indonesia Open Super Series Premier-2011, the best Indian women's badminton pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa could not sustain the winning momentum of the first round, as they lost to the 6th seeded Indonesian pair of Meiliana Jauhari / Greysia Polii in the 2nd round in a close 3-setter match losing by a score of 20-22, 21-18, 18-21.
Earlier in the first round, Jwala and Ashwini had defeated Lotte Jonathans & Paulien Van Dooremalen of Netherlands 21-17, 21-17 to progress to the 2nd round.
In the Men's Singles and Men's doubles events of the Indonesia Open, the Indian challenge had already ended yesterday when Ajay Jayaram and the pair of Rupesh Kumar/Sanave Thomas lost their first-round matches.
