Swiss Open-2011: Saina Nehwal in finals

Badminton star Saina Nehwal of India, currently ranked 4th in the world, stormed into the finals of the Swiss Open -2011 badminton tournament being held at Basel in Switzerland.

Saina defeated 4th seeded Youn Joo Bae of Korea in the hard fought 3-setter semi-finals that lasted for close to 1 hour (58 minutes to be precise). Saina Nehwal beat Youn Joo Bae by a score of 21-19, 13-21, 21-14.

Earlier Saina had overcome the challenge of Eriko Hirose in the 2nd round, avenging her defeat to Eriko earlier this month at the England Open. She had then gone on to defeat Petya Nedelcheva of Bulgaria in the quarter-finals.

In the other women's singles semi-final Ji Hyun Sung of Korea toppled 3rd seeded Juliane Schenk of Germany to set up a title clash against Saina Nehwal.

All the other Indian badminton players barring the exception of Saina Nehwal are already out of the reckoning. Ajay Jayaram and the men's doubles pair of Rupesh Kumar/Sanave Thomas earlier did well to reach the quarter-finals of the Swiss Open before bowing out of the tournament.

Saina Nehwal, who had a dream run last year, would by looking forward to get her first major title win in the year 2011, and all Indian eyes would be undoubtedly on her, hoping for an Indian title win.
