Saina suffers shock defeat

Setback for Saina

Saina Nehwal, ranked 4th in the world, suffered a shock defeat today at the ongoing Korea Open Super Series badminton tournament when she was defeated by world.no. 28 Sayaka Sato of Japan in a 3-set match. Sayaka Sato defeated Saina Nehwal 17-21, 21-19, 21-11

Saina & Sato had earlier played against each other in the Indonesia Open Super series last year, when Saina had won in 3 sets. However, Sato got the better of Saina today, to level her personal score against Saina at 1-1.

P Kashyap loses against Gade

In an earlier match of the day, P.Kashyap was pitted against the 3rd seed and world.no.5 Peter Gade of Denmark. Gade won the match 21-16, 21-13.

Jwala-Diju out of reckoning

Jwala-Diju were stopped dead in their tracks by the 6th seeded Chinese mixed doubles pair of Tao Jiaming & Qing Tian. The Chinese pair defeated Jwala-Diju by a score of 21-16, 21-13

Jwala-Ashwini advance

The only match today that provided a winning result for India, was Jwala Gutta & Ashwini Ponnappa winning their 2nd round women's doubles match to progress further to the quarterfinals.
Jwala-Ashwini defeated Japanese combine of Mizuki Fuji & Reika Kakiiwa, 21-18, 14-21, 21-15
